QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: High School diploma or GED. Valid/current First Aid/CPR card. Ridgefield School District operates under WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association) regulations which require that head coaches be at least 21 years of age and assistant coaches be at least 19 years of age.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Successful previous coaching experience at level (i.e. High School or Middle School). Minimum two years coaching experience in this specific sport (i.e. Head or Assistant, Girls or Boys sport)
RESPONSIBILITIES: Will adhere to rules and regulations according to WIAA and District policies and procedures. Concussion training will be required of successful candidate.
DUTIES: (May include, but not limited to):
Year-round Responsibilities:
- Adhere to standards of confidentiality in regard to students and staff.
- Current with new knowledge and innovative ideas and techniques in designated sport by reviewing publications and attendance at clinic; encouraging his/her assistant coaches to do the same.
- Possess understanding and knowledge of rules and regulations regarding designated sport per WIAA guidelines.
- Keep abreast of current injury/health issues and practices (i.e. prevention, protection and rehabilitation).
- Current regarding rules and rule changes of the sport.
- Current in knowledge of athletes’ scholastic status and work with teachers to encourage scholastic growth.
- Strictly adhere to District policies and procedure regarding purchases and fundraising activities.
- Assist Athletic Director/Assistant Principal/Principal as needed to interview and recommend assistant coaches.
- Assist Athletic Director/Assistant Principal/Principal as needed to carry out any special duties relating to designated sport.
- Membership in a professional organization such as the Washington State Coaches Association preferred.
- Responsible for promoting designated sport throughout the School District and community in a positive and responsible manner.
- Work closely with other coaches in the District and takes an active interest in their programs.
- Attend training and meetings as required.
- Will adhere to length-of-season guidelines per REA-C Bargaining Agreement.
Seasonal Responsibilities:
Pre Season:
- Maintains supervisory control over all phases of teams in his/her program.
- Assume responsibilities for proper registration of all athletes.
- Assure that all participants in the sport have had the proper physical examinations, insurance, and parental permission form completed prior to any physical activity in that sport.
- Arrange for the payment of necessary fees.
- Facilitate accident-reporting and insurance procedures as outlined in the coaches’ handbook.
- Provide accurate information needed to compile eligibility lists and other reports.
- Present to athletes all regulations of the District and pertinent WIAA regulations concerning the athletic code and eligibility.
- Identify in writing, clear expectations of team regarding conduct, attendance, practices, participation in fundraising, etc.
- Clarify to athletes the letter award policy.
- Confirm with Athletic Secretary that all potential volunteers have completed necessary paperwork and have background clearance before assisting with program.
- Arrange for systematic issuance of school equipment.
During Season:
- Conduct self and designated team(s) in an ethical manner during practice and contests.
- Be in regular attendance at practice sessions and contests.
- Instruct players concerning rules and rule changes, new knowledge, and innovative ideas and techniques.
- Organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with the idea of developing the athlete’s greatest potential.
- Provide information for transportation, officials and game management.
- Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner.
- Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities being used.
- Assure building regulations are understood and enforced.
- Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of the best training and injury procedures.
- Notify appropriate authority immediately in event of any accident occurring.
- Report a summary of all contests and provide any publicity information that would aid designated program and athletes.
- Maintain communication with athletes’ parents, (i.e. clinic, social hour, parent night, etc.)
Post Season:
- Arrange for systematic return of school equipment.
- Report fines for damaged or non-returned equipment to the athletic office.
- Arrange for cleaning, storing and inventory of all equipment.
- Recommend equipment purchases or repairs to Athletic Director or Supervisor.
- Recommend care, maintenance, additions or improvements of designated facility Athletic Director or Supervisor as needed.
- Arrange for issuance of letters and special awards.
- Submit recommendations for following year’s schedule to Athletic Director or Supervisor.
- Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments.
SEASON: 03/03/2025 - 05/23/2025
Stipend Pay: $5,111.59 (Three equal pays in Mar, Apr, & May)
Position doesn't not meet minimum hours required to qualify for benefits.
