QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  High School diploma or GED.  Valid/current First Aid/CPR card.  Ridgefield School District operates under WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association) regulations which require that head coaches be at least 21 years of age and assistant coaches be at least 19 years of age. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:  Successful previous coaching experience at level (i.e. High School or Middle School). 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Will adhere to rules and regulations according to WIAA and District policies and procedures. Concussion training will be required of successful candidate.
  • Complete required Vector trainings within the first 10 days of employment.
  • Criminal history clearance through Washington State Patrol and FBI. Fingerprinting cost is the responsibility of the employee.

 

DUTIES:  (May include, but not limited to):

Year-round Responsibilities:      

  • Adhere to standards of confidentiality in regard to students and staff. 
  • Current with new knowledge and innovative ideas and techniques in designated sport by reviewing publications and attendance at clinics; encouraging his/her assistant coaches to do the same.
  • Possess understanding and knowledge of rules and regulations regarding designated sport per WIAA guidelines.
  • Keep abreast of current injury/health issues and practices (i.e. prevention, protection and rehabilitation).
  • Current regarding rules and rule changes of the sport.
  • Current in knowledge of athletes’ scholastic status and work with teachers to encourage scholastic growth.
  • Strictly adhere to District policies and procedure regarding purchases and fundraising activities.
  • Assist Head Coach in carrying out his/her responsibilities.
  • Assist Head Coach/Athletic Director/Assistant Principal/Principal as needed to carry out any special duties relating to designated sport.
  • Membership in a professional organization such as the Washington State Coaches Association preferred.
  • Responsible for promoting designated sport throughout the School District and community in a positive and responsible manner. 
  • Work closely with other coaches in the District and take an active interest in their programs.
  • Attend training and meetings as required.
  • Will adhere to length-of-season guidelines per REA-C Bargaining Agreement.

Seasonal Responsibilities:

Pre Season:

  • Assume supervisory control over athletes and programs assigned to him/her.
  • Assume supervisory control over all athletes in the program when such control is needed.
  • Assist Head Coach in proper registration of all athletes.
  • Assist Head Coach in the payment of necessary fees.
  • Assist in accident-reporting and insurance procedures as outlined in the coaches’ handbook.
  • Assist with providing accurate information needed to compile eligibility lists and other reports.
  • Assist Head Coach in explaining to designated team all regulations of the District and pertinent W.I.A.A. regulations concerning the athletic code and eligibility.
  • Assist Head Coach with confirmation of volunteer eligibility.
  • Assist Head Coach in systematic issuance of school equipment.

During Season:

  • Conduct self and designated team(s) in an ethical manner during practice and contests.
  • Be in regular attendance at practice sessions and contests.
  • Instruct players concerning rules and rule changes, new knowledge, and innovative ideas and techniques.
  • Organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with the idea of developing the athlete’s greatest potential under guidance of Head Coach.
  • Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner.
  • Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities being used.
  • Assure that building regulations are understood and enforced.
  • Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of the best training and injury procedures.
  • Notify appropriate authority immediately in event of any accident occurring.
  • Provide Head Coach with information needed in making game reports and publicity releases as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with athletes’ parents, (i.e. clinic, social hour, parent night, etc.)

 Post Season:

  • Assist in systematic return and inventory of school equipment.
  • Report fines for damaged or non-returned equipment to the Head Coach.
  • Recommend equipment purchases or repairs to Head Coach as needed.
  • Recommend care, maintenance, additions or improvements of designated facility to Head Coach as needed.
  • Recommend athletes for letters or special awards to Head Coach.
  • Recommend schedule improvements to Head Coach.
  • Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Ability to communicate and carry out District/building rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Possess competent record keeping skills.
  • Possess competent organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to problem-solve as needed.
  • Ability to work with others as part of a team and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to update skills as required.
  • Consistent, reliable attendance according to established work schedule is required.
  • Experienced in terms of knowledge, skills and abilities in area of the sport.
  • Physical ability to demonstrate motions usual to the sport such as running, lifting, physical impact, throwing, catching, swinging, etc. 
  • Physical ability to lift, move and support, without assistance, up to 60 pounds on a continuous basis for short periods of time according to established procedures.
  • WSP/FBI background check required.
  • Maintain valid CPR/First Aid, and other applicable certifications as needed (i.e. Concussion, Sudden Cardiac Arrest). 

 

SEASON: 11/18/2024 - 03/08/2025

STIPEND AMOUNT: $4,929.03 (Three equal payments in Dec, Jan, & Feb)

BENEFITS: Position doesn't not meet minimum hours required to qualify for benefits.
