Preemployment Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Educational Staff Associate (ESA) School Counselor certification for the State of Washington or certification in process through OSPI.
  • Demonstrated strong skills and background in current trends, instructional methods and strategies in counseling students.
  • Experience conducting large-group presentations and both small group and individual counseling sessions.
  • Demonstrated experience with the 504 guidelines, and Special Education services and guidelines.
  • Experience developing schedules and maintaining data (as related to counseling services).
  • Demonstrated evidence of effectively working with students, parents and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience using/implementing PBIS, or similar program.
  • Advanced ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and through the use of technology.
  • Candidate has not received notice of nonrenewal from the Ridgefield School District pursuant to RCW 28A.405.220

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful experience implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports systems, or similar behavioral system frameworks
  • Knowledge and experience implementing student intervention systems and pre-referral (sped) processes
  • Knowledge and experience facilitating social emotional learning school-wide and for targeted student populations
  • Conflict mediation and resolution skills
  • Knowledge and experience with restorative practices and discipline alternatives
  • Successful experience as a part of a collaborative team with staff and administration 
  • Successful experience providing individual guidance and support for middle level students

Essential Functions:

  • Provide individual counseling with students.
  • Consult and plan with teachers in areas of student behavior, learning challenges, and student achievement.
  • Help design and participate in programs for at risk students.
  • Develop and implement programs and services designed to meet the mental health needs of students.
  • Coordinate school-wide PBIS program.
  • Serve as point person for staff in reporting concerns of child abuse or neglect.
  • Demonstrate continual development of counseling and planning capabilities to contribute toward meeting District goals and objectives.
  • Schedule and facilitate parent and/or teacher conferences at the request of the student, teacher, parent or administration.
  • Refer students (parents) to appropriate community agencies when needed.
  • Plan and develop counseling services and participate in development of school programs which respond to the learning or social needs of the student.
  • Keep abreast of new and innovative programs and communicate information to teachers, students, and parents.
  • Provide classroom presentations of the personal development curriculum; such as social skills, conflict resolution, and coping.
  • Participate as a member of the Building Leadership Team.
  • Provide skill building, support, prevention, and intervention services for students.
  • Provide assistance and support for student’s academic growth, character education and life skills.
  • Consult with other professionals and student’s families.
  • Conduct group counseling on selected common concerns.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with community, parents, teachers, administrators and support staff.
  • Notify appropriate authority immediately in the event of any incident occurring on school premises.
  • Perform related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the District.
  • Follow State guidelines for a comprehensive counseling model at the elementary school level.

  • Possess highly effective communication skills
  • Ability to carry out District/building rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Possess competent record keeping skills.
  • Possess WESPaC/Skyward student records skills.
  • Possess competent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with others as part of a team and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Consistent, reliable attendance according to established work schedule is required.
  • Ability to attend pertinent workshops pertaining to position.

START DATE: 08/31/2022 with TRI days starting 8/23/2022.  

New teacher induction dates: 8/17, 8/18, 8/19, & 8/22.
