Job Description:                 

Reporting directly to the Director of Special Education, the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides speech and language services in the areas of student assessment, augmentative alternative communication devices, direct therapy, training and consultation to staff and families to support students to function to their highest possible level within the educational system. The Speech Language Pathologist participates as a member of an education team in the assessment and program evaluation for students.  The SLP serves as a liaison with medical and community service providers on behalf of children with disabilities and their families

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Educational Staff Associate (ESA) Speech Language Pathologist certification for the State of Washington or certification in process through OSPI.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Understanding of current State and Federal laws pertaining to the education of students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated evidence of effectively working with students, parents and staff.
  • Knowledge of appropriate standards and ability to integrate into practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to modify practice to improve student learning.
  • Experience using the IEP-Online system, or equivalent.
  • Training and/or experience in instructional and/or management strategies in PBIS, Collaborative Problem Solving, TEACCH, ABA, visual systems/learning, assistive technology, social thinking, social emotional learning, curriculum adaptations, social skills instruction, Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS).
  • Experience and training in CPI nonviolent crisis intervention techniques or equivalent process.
  • Demonstrated competency with data tracking systems, IEP Development using computer supports such as Excel, Word, etc.
  • Advanced ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and through the use of technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize caseloads
  • Candidate has not received notice of nonrenewal from the Ridgefield School District pursuant to RCW 28A.405.220

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children with articulation and language disabilities.
  • Experience in the identification, assessment, programming and evaluation of children with language disabilities.
  • Understanding of current State and Federal laws pertaining to the education of students with disabilities.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Inform principals, teachers and other school personnel of speech, language and/or hearing services.
  • Organize and conduct an identification program for communication disorders by utilizing screening criteria, materials, procedures and record-keeping strategies.
  • Select and employ diagnostic procedures and develop guidelines for a comprehensive remediation program.
  • Establish criteria for caseload selection and dismissal.
  • Select and implement therapy strategies for modifying communicative behavior of each student with a speech, language and/or hearing disorder.
  • Maintain a system to record all identification and evaluative data and continuous student performance information.
  • Identify and define factors which determine the effectiveness of therapy. Redefine goals and modify therapy strategies consistent with the individual education plan (IEP) or the individual family service plan (IFSP).
  • Consult with parents, educators and other professionals regarding needs of children/students to assure appropriate learning experiences.
  • Complete all required reports and records for compliance within statutory guidelines.
  • Provide technical assistance to communication technicians and assistants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to travel to all buildings within the District.

 

START DATE: 8/31/2021 with TRI days starting 8/25/2021.  Teacher induction dates: August 19, 20, 23, and 24.
