JOB GOAL:

The ALE/CCTE Coordinator oversees Ridgefield School District’s ALE/CCTE programs in a manner consistent with and supportive of the District’s mission. The Coordinator promotes the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching for staff and students in ALE and CCTE programs; leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of a data-driven, continuous improvement plan for ALE/CCTE; evaluates effective program instruction and assessment; and promotes college and career-related learning. Using leadership, communication, and management skills, the ALE/CCTE Coordinator works collaboratively with staff, parents, and students to promote quality educational programs for all students. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Five years teaching experience
  • A core belief that all students can learn.
  • Demonstrated strong skills and background in current trends, instructional methods and strategies in teaching students.
  • Demonstrated evidence of effective classroom management skills.
  • Demonstrated evidence of effectively working with students, parents and staff.
  • Knowledge of appropriate content standards and ability to integrate into classroom instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to modify instruction to improve student learning through the use of formative, summative, and performance assessment strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to design and implement intervention/enrichment groups.
  • Advanced ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and through the use of technology.
  • Candidate has not received notice of nonrenewal from the Ridgefield School District pursuant to RCW 28A.405.220

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Washington State Administrator License or application in process.
  • Experience as a school administrator or teaching in an alternative learning environment. 
  • Demonstrated success developing new programs and systems that support student learning.

Essential Functions: May include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and direct the development and/or establishment of a unified, alternative education curriculum, ensuring that it is rigorous, culturally responsive, and reflects current research and theory in instruction
  • Plan and direct the development and/or establishment of a unified, District-wide career connected learning curriculum that includes:
  • Expose- (K-6) connecting teachers with business partners and providing learning lab guest speakers and field trips.  Field trips may include tech demo days, hands-on PBL projects.
  • Experience- (7-12) providing experiential opportunities for students to explore careers in the community.  This may include career fairs, work site tours, flipped internships, career panels, tech demo days and hands-on PBL projects. 
  • Immerse- (11-12) coordinating with CAPS staff to develop mentorships, internships, work-based learning, and working with business partners to identify real problems for students to solve.
  • Coordinate with the Curriculum Department administrators and staff to facilitate strategic academic initiatives.
  • Evaluate employee performance taking necessary action when warranted to correct unsatisfactory performance.
  • Promote curriculum and teaching practices that engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, problem-solving and creativity; that address each student’s needs, interests and skill levels that encourage the student to define individual goals and accept responsibility for learning; and that provide a variety of methods for the student to demonstrate performance and achievement to meet state and curricular standards 
  • Provide leadership and support in the implementation of ALE programs throughout the District.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Student Services and other designated ESS administrators on alternative education placements that address the needs of students with identified learning challenges.
  • Collect and analyze performance data including, but not limited to, state and District assessments regarding the achievement of students, work samples, and other pertinent information affecting alternative education placements and the design and evaluation of curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Prepare reports and presentations reflecting the strengths and needs of the District’s alternative education curriculum by area and grade, and formulates recommendations for alterations or additions to the curriculum, with specific focus on raising student achievement and graduation rates.
  • Monitor student progress toward graduation and post-secondary enrollment, providing support to maximize student success.
  • Represent the Superintendent’s Office with the public and other external organizations on a variety of issues, including college transition, workforce development initiatives, social services and high school graduation.
  • Direct the annual review and revision of alternative education curriculum and ensures alignment with the Common Core State Standards.
  • Collaborate with other site administrators to provide personalized learning programs for at-risk students at their school.
  • Encourage differentiated instruction and the use of a variety of strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
  • Collaborate with principals, supporting alternative education options in the comprehensive high schools.
  • Collaborate with community college and university programs to align work to create career pathways/programs of study and dual credit articulations.
  • Travel to offsite classrooms, community partner locations, and retailers as needed.
  • Identify staffing needs and assist with the recruitment and selection of staff for ALE and CCTE programs.
  • Communicate frequently with building administrators, Director of CCTE and Federal Programs teachers, data teams, community agencies, and others to ensure coordination of related programs and services.
  • Ensure that the professional development programs for ALE/CCTE staff focus on how students learn, encompass both content and pedagogical knowledge and skills, promote collaborative learning, and include job-embedded opportunities for growth.
  • Manage program budgets within the scope of responsibility for ALE/CCTE district wide, including both district and private operated alternative education programs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate grants and special projects, including initiatives offered through state or federal legislation, local or cooperative partnerships, and/or foundation grants related to alternative education.
  • Participate in CCTE General Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Technology Department to ensure that appropriate software and online resources are available to support the alternative education program, and teachers are adept at integrating technology into their instructional practices.
  • Be flexible and adapt to student and school needs.
  • Be organized, reflective, participatory and punctual.
  • Notify appropriate authority immediately in the event of any incident occurring on school premises.
  • Perform physical tasks, including repeated lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods.
  • Perform related duties as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Commitment to the belief that all students can learn, to educational equity, and to the District’s purpose statement.
  • Knowledge of research-based curriculum development, instruction and assessment practices, especially relative to interventions with struggling learners and students of varying cultural heritages and English proficiencies.
  • Competence communicating and supporting ALE/CCTE staff to track eligibility and needs for staff certification.
  • Ability to evaluate ALE/CCTE instructional programs and teaching effectiveness and to interpret data.
  • Ability to coordinate District-wide programs and initiatives and in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers and district/school administrators and to promote collaborative practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present comprehensive and effective reports, both oral and written, as appropriate to varied audiences.
  • Ability to manage budgets and multiple priorities, lead and supervise staff, adapt to change, and meet timelines.
  • Ability to communicate and carry out District/building rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Possess competent record keeping and organizational skills.
  • Possess effective communication skills.
  • Ability to use standard district and program technology effectively and efficiently for a variety of purposes (e.g. Chromebook, Google, Word).
  • Ability to problem-solve as needed.
  • Ability to work with others as part of a team and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with students, parents, staff and the general public.
  • Ability to accurately read, write and compute per needs of position.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to attend pertinent professional development pertaining to ALE and CCTE
  • Ability to update skills as required.
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR
  • Consistent, reliable attendance according to established work schedule is required.
