Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Educational Staff Associate (ESA) School Counselor certification for the State of Washington or certification in process through OSPI.
  • Demonstrated strong skills and background in current trends, instructional methods and strategies in counseling students.
  • Experience conducting large-group presentations and both small group and individual counseling sessions.
  • Experience with student scheduling, comprehensive academic and career planning, 504 guidelines, and Special Education services and guidelines.
  • Experience developing schedules and maintaining data (as related to counseling services).
  • Demonstrated evidence of effectively working with students, parents and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience using/implementing PBIS.
  • Community agency collaboration experience.
  • Advanced ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and through the use of technology.
  • Candidate has not received notice of nonrenewal from the Ridgefield School District pursuant to RCW 28A.405.220.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide individual counseling with students
  • Consult and plan with teachers in areas of student behavior, learning problems, and student achievement
  • Identify and make appropriate placement or referral of students with special needs
  • Help design and participate in programs for at risk students
  • Demonstrate continual development of counseling and planning capabilities to contribute toward meeting District goals and objectives
  • Provide opportunities for students in career education, including self-assessment, career exploration and test interpretation related to educational and vocational goals
  • Participate in enrollment orientation and registration of new and returning students
  • Monitor student credits, track permanent student record files, transcripts and evaluations and inform parents of credit deficits
  • Schedule and facilitate parent and/or teacher conferences at the request of the student, teacher, parent or administration
  • Keep abreast of new, and changes in, scholarship requirements and availability and communicate information to interested students and parents
  • Refer students and/or parents to appropriate community agencies when needed
  • Plan and develop counseling services and participate in development of school programs which respond to the learning or social needs of the student
  • Provide assistance and support for student’s academic growth, character education and life skills
  • Participate as a member of the Building Multi-Disciplinary Team
  • Consult with other professionals and students' families
  • Conduct group counseling on selected common concerns
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with community, parents, teachers, administrators and support staff
  • Notify appropriate authority immediately in the event of any incident occurring on school premises
  • Perform related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the District
  • Follow State guidelines for a comprehensive counseling model at the secondary level

 

ESTIMATED START DATE: 8/31/2021 with TRI days starting 8/25/2021. Induction dates: August 19, 20, 23, and 24.

Per REA Collective Bargaining Agreement, an additional Supplemental Contract of eleven (11) days per diem provided to full-time high school counselors.
